On Mar 18, the world leading general chemistry journal “Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF:13.7)” published Prof. Yang-Chun Yong’s work entitled “Highly active bidirectional electron transfer by a self-assembled electroactive reduced-graphene-oxide-hybridized biofilm, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2014, doi: 10.1002/anie.201400463”. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/anie.201400463/abstract;jsessionid=1483FA60DBB5A48AFCCC539C157AA127.f04t04

Graphene is one of the most fascinating nanomaterials discovered in the 21st century. However, large-scale synthesis and 3D framework construction are of great challenge. In this study, Prof. Yong synthesized a 3D marcoporous graphene network with bacteria at the atmosphere condition. More impressively, with a simple one-step self-assembling process, the bacteria embedded framework formed 3D biofilm on the electrode and showed high bioelectrochemical activity. Strikingly, this 3D graphene-hybridized biofilm dramatically promoted bi-directional electron transfer between cells and the electrode, which showed great potential in various bioelectrochemical applications.

Prof. Yong joined in JSU at 2012 from Singapore. With the support from the School of the Environment and Biofuels Institute, he has gained great research progress in the field of energy and environment biotechnology.
